Recently, I attended two meetings about future possibilities for SAD 39. Those meetings were presented by the school board chairman and superintendent. The agenda has been looking into what SAD 39 should do – keep the status quo? Disband? Form or join an existing union? Become a charter school, or a special purpose school by legislation? Or other?
Ideas presented at the first meeting included that the district needed to be proactive and jump on the bandwagon, change SAD 39 before the state steps in. As I left that meeting, I felt the future of SAD 39 looked pretty bleak.
After the second meeting, I am still concerned.
It concerns me to hear the school board chairman and superintendent talking about the pros and cons of SAD 39 consolidating with a larger school or joining an existing union or to disband altogether.
I believe the school board and superintendent should be proactive in looking into all the ways possible for the community to keep the school for many generations.
This community has a wonderful small school. I do not want to lose it.
