AUGUSTA – Margaret Quinlan, 85, died Friday, Feb. 24, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Lisbon Falls, June 25, 1920, a daughter of Andrew and Julia Badnar Lacko. She graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1938 and St. Mary’s General School of Nursing in 1947.

She married Thomas Quinlan in Hampton, N.H., on March 17, 1960. He died in 1974.

She was awarded a civil service commission to the Marine Hospital, Boston, from 1952 to 1973. She then worked for Milton Hospital until retiring in 1982.

Her dear friend and companion of 25 years was John Short. To his children and grandchildren, she was known as Peg Q. and Nana Peg. They enjoyed many interests and traveled together.

She is survived by three nephews, George Byras, Francis Byras and Louis Murphy and two nieces, Katherine (Betty) Small and Shirley Durgin.

She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, John and Andrew Lacko; and two sisters, Mary Murphy and Helen Bowie.
