LEWISTON – Heather Sirois, Poland Spring Preservation Park Museum director, presented a gift of $775.50, raised through the sale of Lucinda House Pins at the facility’s gift shop, to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. The gift will benefit patient care and support at the new Hospice House.

“It has been a pleasure to work with AHCH on this project. As a company within this community we see the importance of providing care at such a critical time in one’s life,” said Sirois. “Our donation is a way of thanking AHCH for contributing to the area a new facility geared toward offering end-of-life care. We look forward to many more opportunities to work with AHCH and its great staff.”

The Hospice House, located in Auburn, opened to patient care in November. The facility, the first of its kind in Maine, specifically cares for patients in the final weeks or days of life. In its first few months, more than 30 patients have received care at the facility.

“We appreciate Poland Spring Preservation Park’s support in our efforts to improve end-of-life care in Maine,” said Julie Shakley, president/CEO. “Poland Spring has a history of supporting community organizations, and we are pleased they chose to work with us on this effort. Having the Lucinda House Pins and Hospice House information in their gift shop increased the visibility and awareness of the Hospice House in the community. We hope to work with Poland Spring Preservation Park in the future.”

After a three-year restoration project the Poland Spring facilities, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, were transformed into a museum, caf and gift shop.

Through scientific displays and vintage memorabilia, the museum offers a close-up look at one of Maine’s oldest industries. The park also provides more than four miles of groomed hiking and cross-country skiing trails free to the public. For more information, call 998-7143.
