DURHAM – A Portland man was charged with driving with a suspended license late Monday afternoon when his SUV struck a house on Royalsborough Road.
Androscoggin County Sheriff Sgt. Jim Jacques said Simon Manyiel, 24, of 22 Madison St. was being held at the county jail in Auburn early Monday night, and bail had not been set.
Jacques said Manyiel was driving south on Royalsborough Road and lost control of his 1998 GMC Jimmy when he started to pull to the right as a car was passing him. His vehicle hit a soft shoulder, then careened to the left, across the road, striking two mailboxes, continuing on through the dooryard before stopping against the front of the Wilfred Cloutier residence.
Neither Manyiel nor Cloutier and his wife were injured, Sgt. Jacques said. The vehicle did not break through the wall of the house.
Damage to the SUV was set at $5,000 and to the house at $2,000 in the 4:43 p.m. crash. Durham Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.
