ORLANDO, Fla. – Rosella M. (Humphrey) Priest, 94, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Orlando, Fla.

She was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Easton, the oldest child of Garnet and Cora (Brown) Humphrey. She married Philip Priest of Vassalboro on June 23, 1934 in Brewer.

She graduated from Farmington Normal School (now University of Maine-Farmington) in 1931 and taught school for two years in East Eddington, before she was married. Her husband was a border patrol inspector and they moved to Rangeley in 1944. After the death of her husband in 1948, she returned to teaching and taught the fourth grade in Rangeley for 27 years, before retiring in 1976. She moved to Orlando in 1978.

She was a past worthy matron of the Maneskootuk Chapter O.E.S, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma an honorary teachers society, a member of Daughter of Union Veterans and a volunteer at the Columbia Park Medical Center in Orlando with over 3,000 hours. She was an avid reader and bridge player throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening, especially tending her rose bushes in Florida, knitting, golfing and skiing. She taught for several summers at Camp Waya-Awi in Rangeley and was a charter member of the Rangeley Congregational Church in 1955.

She will be remembered for her sweet temperament and positive attitude and was a favorite person to everyone she knew. An entire generation of Rangeley students will remember her daily readings of “The Secret Garden” or another book to their class. She will be greatly missed by everyone who was associated with her.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Priest and his wife, Barbra, of North Reading, Mass. and David Priest and his wife, Margaret, of Malvern, Pa.; six grandchildren, Heidi Priest of Groton, Mass., Sonja Murphy and her husband, Gerard, of North Andover, Mass., Douglas Priest of Charlestown, Mass., Beth Williamson and her husband, Brian , of North Andover, Mass., Caren Langheim and her husband, Eric, of New York City and Megann Hare of Fort Myers, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Charles and Claire Murphy and Benjamin and Sarah Williamson; a brother, Kempton Humphrey of Brewer; a sister-in-law, Shireen Priest of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; one brother, Neal Humphrey; and a sister, Doris Knowles.
