LEWISTON – Thomas Eugene “Bud” Estes Sr., 77, of New Gloucester, passed away Feb. 27, at Central Maine Medical Center from complications due to a stroke.

Born Sept. 30, 1928, in Topsham, the son of Weston and Nina White Estes, he graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1946.

Mr. Estes married Margaret Maschino on Aug. 9, 1948. He worked in the woods for several years and for H.P. Hood and Sons in Auburn doing truck maintenance. For several years, he owned Echo Lumber with his brother-in-law, John Maschino. He retired from Standard Linen of Portland as a boiler operator. After retirement, he worked for Jerry Dupont Excavating and for his son at Hi-Tech Insulation.

Mr. Estes served three years on the New Gloucester School Board and four years when SAD 15 was newly formed. He was past member of Sebago Lodge 38 and past member of Knights of Pythias for 37 years. He went through all chairs to commander and served two years as chancellor. He was head of beano for five years, past member of the New Gloucester Fire Department for 57 years, member of the Remember When Senior Citizens, honorary member of the Royal River Riders Snowmobile Club, president for two years and trail master for many years and past member of the F&G Square Dance Club for 13 years. Mr. Estes was an avid hunter and Red Sox, Patriots and NASCAR fan.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Margaret Maschino Estes; a daughter; Rite LeBlanc and husband, Jerry; two sons, Tom Jr. and wife, Eileen and Chuck and wife, Cindy; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, all of New Gloucester; and two sisters, Bella Young and Nancy Stanton
