Lodge supper

CANTON – Whitney Lodge 167, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, preceded by a casserole supper at 6:30 p.m. All master Masons are welcome.

Bottle drive

PERU – The Peru Baptist Church youth group will hold a bottle drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4. Those who plan to be away and want to donate bottles are asked to leave a note with the bottles.

Card-making

MEXICO – Mexico Public Library will conduct a “Cabin Fever Reliever.” The library is joining with Scrapper’s Domaine for a spring card-making party from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Scrapper’s Domaine, 77 Canal St. Storm date will be Thursday, March 30.

Three cards and another project will be created by attendees. Prior experience with card-making or stamping isn’t required. Refreshments and coffee will be served.

The cost will be $10 a person, and all supplies are included in the price. To sign up and pre-pay, visit the Mexico Public Library at 134 Main St. anytime before Wednesday, March 15.

The event is a fundraiser for the library. Call the library at 364-3281 for more information.

Spring fitness

RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition and the Spring Fitness Program Committee are finalizing this year’s spring fitness program. The kickoff will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Black Mountain of Maine in conjunction with the Rumford Hospital’s Family Day at Black Mountain.

Booths related to health and wellness will be set up in the lodge, healthy snacks will be provided and fitness activities will be held.

The eight-week self-tracking fitness program encourages individuals to exercise 30 to 45 minutes at least three to five days a week. Participants must register by Sunday, March 5, and pick a category in which to compete. They will track their minutes of activity on sheets provided and turn them in at the end of the eight weeks to be eligible to win prizes.

Prizes include gift certificates from businesses, gift baskets and free memberships to local facilities.

Stop smoking

RUMFORD – The smoking cessation program, sponsored by River Valley Healthy Communities., will begin on Tuesday, March 7. The sessions are free. There will be four one-hour sessions at Rumford Hospital Conference Room: March 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 5 to 6 p.m. For more information or to sign up, call Stephanie at 364-7408.

Teen center

RUMFORD – The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition has created a local resource for high school youths. A teen center, located in the basement of the Mexico Recreational Center, has been open only occasionally due to lack of volunteers.

The coalition has been raising money to hire a coordinator for the center so that it can be open more consistently.

An initial meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the coalition office, 94 River St.
