LIVERMORE – Selectmen agreed Monday night to look into ordering more sand after Highway Foreman Moe Ouellette said the town pile is low.

“We might as well get some, we’ll use it some time,” Selectperson Brenda Merrill said.

Ouellette also noted that the calcium on the roads is eating away at the undersides of town vehicles.

“The calcium is ruining brake shoes and bearings,” he said. There isn’t enough time between runs to keep rinsing these parts off, he said, and in real severe weather it wouldn’t help much anyway.

Ouellette also noted one truck’s plow needs to be replaced with a heavier duty one.

“The one that’s on it now isn’t strong enough for what we’re using it for,” he said.

The board is also considering buying a new truck with a front sander instead of a rear one. Ouellette believes it would be easier and safer to sand uphill with a front sander.

Town Clerk Renda Libby said several positions are up for election this year. These include two three-year positions on the Board of Selectmen, two three-year positions on the School Board, the treasurer’s job and Libby’s.

Nomination papers will be available March 20 at the Town Office and must be submitted by April 28. Elections are June 13.
