MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – A mistrial was declared Tuesday in the trial of a Manchester teenager charged with beating a man with a baseball bat that left the victim paralyzed.

Larry Barbosa, 17, was charged with first-degree assault in the beating of Stephen Raymond, 41.

The Hillsborough County Superior Court jury heard three days of testimony and deliberated 17 hours without reaching a verdict. Some witnesses positively identified Barbosa as the person in a group of attackers who delivered the damaging blow, but other witnesses weren’t so sure.

Felix Urena, 21, was acquitted in an earlier trial related to the case and testified against Barbosa. Prosecutors said they will try Barbosa again.

Raymond apparently had confronted two teenagers who were shooting BB pellets at cars. Police said a group later went in search of Raymond to retaliate, beating him in the back and head last August.
