CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Barbara A. D. Erickson of Charlottesville, Va., died unexpectedly at home Sunday, Feb. 26.
She was the daughter of the late Mildred Hamblin Doyle and Edward A. Doyle, and sister of the late Claire Keim.
Born in Leominster, Mass. she spent the first seven years of her life in the lovely Italian lake town of Varese. Returning home, she lived in Southport, Conn. and Wilmington, Del., where she attended Wilmington Friends School. She graduated from the Mary A. Burnham School in Northhampton Mass. She attended college, and then married her husband of 30 years, Norman. They moved west to Oregon, Washington State and in 1973, moved to Charlottesville. After many years of being a devoted wife and mother, she joined the work force, first with AAA, and then with the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau where she worked for 23 years, until her death.
She enjoyed traveling, revisiting her New England roots in Maine with her son, returning to Europe, and most recently, a trip to France with her daughters.
She is survived by her loving children, daughter, Louise and her husband, Rick Kern, of California, her daughter, Melissa and husband, Michael Jones, of Charlottesville, and a son, Matthew and his wife, Nicholette, of Auburn; her adoring grandchildren, Riley Jones, Corey and Jack Erickson, and Maria and Olivia Kern.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman.
