BOSTON – Dwyane Wade had 24 points and eight assists, Antoine Walker scored all of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, and the Miami Heat extended their winning streak to seven with a 103-96 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
Shaquille O’Neal added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Heat, who outscored the Celtics 56-32 in the paint.
Wade, the Eastern Conference player of the month for February, shot 7-of-15 from the field and was 10-of-16 from the free throw line. He also had five rebounds for the Heat, who have won 12 of 14 and improved to 26-10 since Pat Riley took over for Stan Van Gundy as coach Dec. 12.
Paul Pierce, who set a Celtics record by averaging 33.5 points per game in February, scored 38 points. Delonte West had 20 and Wally Szczerbiak added 12 for the Celtics.
Walker, making his first appearance in Boston since been being traded from the Celtics to the Heat in the offseason, was 0-of-4 from the floor through three quarters. But he was 5-of-7 in the fourth as the Celtics’ two-game winning streak ended.
The Heat led by as many as 11 early in the fourth quarter, but West and Ryan Gomes sparked a Boston rally.
After Shandon Anderson’s free throw gave the Heat an 80-70 lead with 9:47 remaining,
West hit two consecutive 3-pointers to pull Boston to within 80-76.
Walker then made a 3-pointer to extend Miami’s lead to 85-78, but Raef LaFrentz and West made back-to-back 3-pointers and Gomes hit a 21-foot jumper to make it 86-85 and give Boston its first lead since early in the third quarter.
After the teams traded baskets, Walker gave Miami the lead for good when his layup made it 90-88 with 4:44 remaining.
Walker’s third 3-pointer of the fourth pushed Miami’s lead to 100-94 with 55 seconds remaining.
Kings 97, Cavaliers 90
CLEVELAND – Kenny Thomas scored 22 points and Mike Bibby added 16 Wednesday night to lead the Sacramento Kings over Cleveland 97-90, the Cavaliers’ fifth straight loss.
The Kings have won eight of their last 11 and are 9-6 since Ron Artest was acquired from Indiana.
Hawks 113, Raptors 111
TORONTO – Joe Johnson and Al Harrington each scored 26 points, and the Atlanta Hawks recovered from blowing a late lead to beat the Toronto Raptors 113-111 in overtime on Wednesday night.
Atlanta posted its third overtime win in its last four games after blowing a six-point advantage in the final 34 seconds of overtime.
Pacers 99, Wizards 93
WASHINGTON – Stephen Jackson scored 26 points, David Harrison scored 10 fourth-quarter points on a gimpy ankle, and the Indiana Pacers beat the Washington Wizards 99-93 Wednesday night in a key game between teams jostling for position in the Eastern Conference standings.
Harrison, who sprained his left ankle in the first half, finished with 12 points and limped down court after his biggest basket of the night – a follow of Fred Jones’ missed layup just before the shot clock expired with 47 seconds remaining.
It gave the Pacers a 97-91 lead.
Grizzlies 101, Knicks 99
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Pau Gasol hit 15-foot baseline jumper with 2.7 seconds remaining Wednesday night to lift the Memphis Grizzlies to a 101-99 victory over the New York Knicks.
Steve Francis’ 21-footer from the top of the key as time ran out bounced off the rim, and New York lost its fifth straight and for the 21st time in the last 23 games.
Nuggets 98, Pistons 87
DENVER – Kenyon Martin had 28 points and 12 rebounds and Carmelo Anthony added 25 points to help the Denver Nuggets hand the Detroit Pistons a rare road loss, 98-87 Wednesday night.
Bobcats 104, Jazz 89
SALT LAKE CITY – Brevin Knight had 19 points and 10 assists, and the Charlotte Bobcats won on the road for just the sixth time this season, beating the Utah Jazz 104-89 on Wednesday night.
Suns 123, Bucks 110
PHOENIX – Steve Nash scored 23 points and had 13 assists to lead the Phoenix Suns over the Milwaukee Bucks 123-110 Wednesday night.
