LEWISTON – Sister Yvonne Comeau (Mere Louis Bertrand), 99, a Dominican Sister of the Roman Congregation died early Wednesday morning, March 1, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, after 77 years of religious profession.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1906, in Burnsville, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of Al Nicholas Comeau and Victorine Leger.

In 1927, Sister Yvonne entered the Dominican Sisters in Valleyfield, Canada where she also received the Dominican habit a year later. On Aug. 8, 1929 she made her temporary profession in Valleyfield and her final profession in Sabattus on Aug. 19, 1935.

Throughout most of her religious life, she was an educator. She taught at St. Peter’s School in Lewiston, for 20 years. Her other assignments were in Sabattus, Staten Island, N.Y., Rouens, France, Bourges, France, Des Moines and Riverside, Iowa.

She was a very creative and energetic teacher with a wonderful sense of humor. Upon her retirement, she was involved in rendering services to her local community. She was an artist and also enjoyed to knit and do crafts. She was a faithful contributor to the bazaars that took place at the convent in Sabattus by sharing her art work, her knitted goods and other crafts that she had made.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jeanne Comeau; several nieces and nephews; as well as her provincial and international Dominican Congregation.

She was predeceased by her parents; and by 15 brothers and sisters.
