MD kickoff

LEWISTON – A March of Dimes WalkAmerica Family Team kickoff will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in Central Maine Medical Center Conference Rooms A, B and C.

There will be activities for the children, a chance for a photo with a Lewiston police officer, information and kits for family teams and light refreshments.

Public skating

AUBURN – A special public skating session will be held from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Ingersoll Arena, Pettengill Park. Cost will be $3 for adults; $2, high school students and under and senior citizens; free, age 4 and under.

Town forum

LITCHFIELD – The Litchfield Seniors Housing Committee is sponsoring a community forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, and 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 8, at the Litchfield Sportsman’s Club, Hallowell Road.

The topic will be “How We Might Meet the Housing Needs of Seniors in Litchfield.” It is a follow-up to the questionnaire that was sent to residents in January. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.

MS meeting

Breastfeeding

AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are welcome. Discussion will be on “Breastfeeding: Avoiding and Overcoming Difficulties,” focusing on concerns about preparing to nurse baby at birth and adjusting to babies’ changing needs. All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion.

Granger named

WATERFORD – Waterford Grange 479 has announced that Lecturer Kathy Lorrain of Waterford has been appointed to the State Lecturer’s Committee for District 6, which covers Androscoggin and Oxford counties.

She will visit each Subordinate and Pomona Grange, where she will offer assistance to lecturers on upcoming programs, contacts for programs and resources offered on the local, state and national grange levels.

Lorrain’s appointment to the committee is for one year.

Civil War speaker

BRUNSWICK – The Chamberlain Civil War Round Table will welcome Earle Shettleworth Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, who will speak on the “Civil War Maine Monuments” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Brunswick Junior High School, Columbia Avenue. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Feb. 28 were: first, Shirley West and Pat Smith; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; fourth, Martine Begert and Jeanine Kivus; first in B, Maude Abbott and Claire Lyons; second in B, Allie Boyce and Charles Bartlett.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on March 1 were: first, Tom Dahlberg and David Wallace; second, Les Buzzell and John Hackett; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; fourth, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia; first in B, Claire Lyons and Roger Briggs. Martine Begert won the most master points for February.
