LEWISTON – William Francis Carrigan Jr., 84, of Lewiston, died peacefully Feb. 27 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 26, 1921. He was educated in Lewiston schools and attended Hebron Academy. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He spent his professional life as a stockbroker and bank director in Lewiston. An animal lover his whole life, he spent his free time with his dogs tending his beloved birds.

The place he loved most on Earth was his camp on Lake Annabessacook, where he spent every summer watching the Red Sox and reminiscing with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther M. Carrigan of Lewiston; three children, Sheila DePalma and her husband, James, of Mechanic Falls, Diana Carrigan of Winthrop and Bill Carrigan and his partner, Maureen, of Carrabassett Valley; three grandchildren, Ryan Carrigan and Adam and Jason DePalma; and two sisters, Beulah Crosby of Attleboro, Mass., and Constance Coughlin of Freeport.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Beulah Carrigan.
