LEEDS – A leaking propane tank at Safety-Kleen on Route 202 caused a stir Friday evening as crews from several towns responded to the threat at the environmental cleanup company.

Local fire and rescue teams, as well as those from adjoining towns of Greene and Turner, and a state hazardous materials team, responded to the 5 p.m. call to investigate the leak. Safety-Kleen is a commercial waste management service that cleans industrial components and disposes of hazardous and nonhazardous waste matter.

Crews evacuated the company, then found the source of the leak and turned it off, according to a police dispatcher. They were at the scene about an hour.
