PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) – Two Princeton University religion professors are trying to make black history lessons available to millions of people across the nation.

Cornel West and Eddie Glaude have developed “Covenant Curriculum: A Study of Black Democratic Action,” a public course available through the Internet.

So far, officials say more than 2 million people may have logged onto the online syllabus. The course’s goal is to place the contributions of black Americans into historical context and to prepare individuals to take action on issues such as health care and crime educational disparities across the country.

Talk show host Tavis Smiley asked West and Glaude to write the curriculum, which was unveiled Feb. 25. It’s meant to be a companion to Smiley’s book, “The Covenant with Black America.”
