RUMFORD – After four years of 84-hour weeks, Robin Leavitt has decided to call it quits.
Island Cafe and Variety, located downtown on Congress Street, closed its doors at 2 p.m. Friday.
“Timothy and I have made a choice to do other things,” she said Friday afternoon as she prepared one of the last lunches to come from the restaurant.
She and Timothy Ronan plan to remain in the community where their friends and family live, she said.
“We’ve had a great run, and we’ve made money,” said Leavitt. “It’s just time for family.”
Prior to opening as a restaurant in 2002, the cafe was the site of a gift shop.
Leavitt and Ronan are originally from the area. They had worked for a coffee company in Portland before moving back to the area.
