NEWRY – At Monday night’s two-hour town meeting, about 100 people approved a municipal budget of $659,000.
A majority also agreed to take $125,000 from surplus to decrease the amount to be raised by real estate taxes. A proposed amendment to use $250,000 instead, failed.
The budget does not include county tax and SAD 44 assessments, which will be determined later in the year.
Municipal officers elected from the floor included incumbent Selectman Jim Largess, to another three-year term, and his wife, Bonnie Largess, as a SAD 44 School Board director, to complete the remaining two years of Kathi Schandelmeier’s three-year term after she resigned. Incumbent constable and dog officer Alan Fleet was also re-elected.
