BOSTON (AP) – State and federal law enforcement agencies on Tuesday released old video footage of gangster James “Whitey” Bulger, who has been on the run for more than 11 years.
The nearly three-minute tape was developed by state police during their investigation of Bulger, a former crime boss who also was an FBI informant.
The tape was released in response to an inquiry by an international cable news outlet, the law enforcement task force said. Investigators said international exposure may help apprehend Bulger, who is 76.
The footage is more than 25 years old, but investigators said Bulger’s mannerisms likely haven’t changed, and may lead to tips from the public.
In the surveillance video, Bulger is seen in 1980 getting in and out of his car, and talking to another man inside the Lancaster Street garage, located near the old Boston Garden sports arena.
Last year, leads and look-a-likes were investigated in at least 19 countries. Similar sightings in the past decade have been reported all over the United States, and in Canada, Britain, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
