A counterfeit five dollar certificate has been discovered as in circulation in this State. The bill is said to be an excellent imitation. The blue coloring is quite a shade lighter than it should be as is also the scroll work. The engraving, however, is nearly perfect. The bill bears the number 564 24972 of the series of 1899.
Two hundred delegates of the agricultural interests appealed to the Earl of Carrington, president of the board of agriculture today against altering the law prohibiting the importation of Canadian store cattle. They did not object to the importation of cattle to be slaughtered at the port of entry but strongly opposed any step which might introduce disease in British herds.

The president of the ship-building Bath Iron Works Corp. said his firm is preparing for the day when atomic-powered destroyers will be part of the U.S. Navy. John. R. Newell said, however, in his annual report that “It is difficult to predict when that day will arrive.” BIW, he said, has unfilled orders totaling $86,516,919 and will spend $2,434,000 on new facilities this year. This includes a large assembly shop. BIW has announced earnings equaling $6.19 a share compared with $5.51 last year.

About seven years ago, when the city of Lewiston began to develop its Data Processing Department, officials quickly realized that computer programs to fulfill the various needs of the many departments were not available. So the city decided to develop its own programs. Now, many other cities are beginning to install computers, but, like Lewiston seven years ago, have no programming staff and are in the market to purchase “software” packages that meet their needs. In an effort to supply other cities with tailor made programs and make some money for the city of Lewiston, officials are considering the sale of their programming efforts.
