LEWISTON – A special service was held at Good News Chapel recently to ordain Roger Poisson and Dan Gosselin as church elders, Russell Levesque, deacon, and Dolly Poisson, deaconess.

Elder Paul Bernard officiated at the service, which included the layng on of hands and anointing with oil.

Good News Chapel was founded by a group of local ministers in October of 1975. Donald Levesque, who served as pastor for 30 years, was forced into early retirement due to health problems. Since his retirement, attendance has dropped due to not having a full-time pastor, and in the last couple of years, the church considered closing its doors.

In 2005 Russell and Shirley Levesque of Sabattus asked Bernard, who worked with them from 1979 to 1995, to take over.

Bernard began officiating at the Sunday services for Good News Chapel in May of 2005 and began rebuilding and evangelistic efforts.

The officers have organized the local and worldwide outreach programs. The church sponsors Straight Ahead Ministries, an outreach designed to help incarcerated juveniles in the state, and Maine’s Worldwide Missions Outreach, which is responsible in sending relief aid into 41 countries.

The church has also posted a Web page, goodnewschapel.org, and provides sermons and Bible studies.

Bernard invites all to attend services and participate in its music ministry, local and global missions outreach programs.
