Thanks for bringing to my attention the allegations of State Rep. Brian Duprey, R-Hampton, and state Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello, R-Poland, that a typical single mom working at minimum wage and receiving state benefits would have the equivalent annual income of $54,000 (March 6).
Undoubtedly, these good legislators are Republican graduates of the George W. Bush School of Useful Spins and Disinformation to Advance the Conservative Agenda.
Our erstwhile legislators are not, in this instance, valiant troops in the War on Terror, but generals in the homefront war on the poor, the elderly, college students, the disabled, teachers, and the uninsured, among many others.
But, if it’s legitimate to take potshots at the poor, then it’s legitimate to turn the tables and employ stereotypes of Republican congressmen to Rep. Duprey and Sen. Snowe-Mello. The duo must therefore be raking in millions from lobbyists and state contractors. Perhaps they are seldom seen in the House and Senate chambers while they scurry around their districts raising money for the next election. And we already know they are planning to rain down financial disaster on their enemies (listed above) in order to bring further prosperity to their wealthy constituents, so they can buy up prime seacoast and lakeshore properties with their millions.
How can the public possibly afford Republican control of state and federal legislatures in November? Democrats aren’t a lot better. Perhaps it’s time for a party that lives by reality and service to all people, and not by stereotypes and fabrications.
