HEBRON – In an interesting twist at a school known for wide diversity in its student body, this year’s Hebron Academy senior class officers have a lot in common: they are all from Maine, all four-year students and all girls.
Molly Curtis of Turner is serving as president of the 59-member class, with vice president Daniella Lyons of Greene, secretary Samantha Baril of Hebron and treasurer Allison Coombs of Livermore.
Becoming a class officer is one of several student leadership opportunities at Hebron. Class officers are elected by their peers and work with faculty advisers to organize and manage special events and projects.
Hebron tradition calls for the senior class president to deliver the commencement address. This year, Curtis will have the honor of speaking to parents, faculty, trustees, friends and fellow students. She is the daughter of Deanna Kilbreth and Jon Curtis.
In addition to carrying a full academic load that includes three advance placement classes, she is a member of the Math Team, Community Service Club, swim team and the Green Key admissions tour guide group. She created costumes and make-up for the school production of “The Wiz.”
Lyons, daughter of Susan and Kevin Lyons, earned All-MAISAD League recognition for her soccer team contributions this year, was assistant captain of the girls hockey team, receiving Most Valuable Player honors at the winter tournament and plays softball.
She appeared in the school musical, “The Wiz,” is a member of the Community Service Club and is participating in the entrepreneurship program this spring. She plans to attend St. Anslem’s College in the fall.
Baril is the daughter of Patty Baril of Hebron and Michael Baril of Yulee, Fla. A four-year member of the soccer, basketball and softball teams, she has been a member of the Green Key admissions tour guide group, and is a dormitory proctor, a position awarded to students who demonstrate leadership, communication skills and the ability to work well with their peers.
She has attended Hebron since kindergarten and has served as secretary of her class for four years. Baril plans a double major in marketing and advertising at college.
Coombs was also selected by residential faculty at Hebron to be a student proctor this year. She was named a Commended Student in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing among the top 5 percent of more than 1 million students who took the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
Coombs is a member of the Green Key admissions tour guide group and performed in the all-school musical production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” last year. She is a member of the lacrosse team.
During the past summer, she attended Bentley College’s business camp, Wall Street 101, a one-week residential program that provides an inside look at Wall Street. She is the daughter of Rosanna and Douglas Coombs of Livermore.
