The second annual Kitten Shower and Open House planned before the birthing season.

AUBURN- The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society invites the community to its second annual Kitten Shower and Open House on Friday and Saturday, March 17 and 18, at the shelter.

From March through September last year, the shelter took in more than 800 kittens. To help care for the “babies,” staff invites the public to participate in the “shower” and help them get ready for the newborns.

Donations such as dry and canned kitten food, kitten milk replacer, clay litter, litter boxes, cat and kitten shampoo, blankets and cat toys are a few of the many supplies needed to help with the increase in kittens.

The society provides a safe haven for approximately 3,600 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area a year. Primary support comes from fundraising events and donations of residents.

The shelter is located at 3312 Hotel Road. For more information on the shower, items needed for the kittens, animals available for adoption or how to become a foster parent, call the shelter at 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
