Woman honored for finding kids
BOSTON (AP) – The FBI is holding a ceremony this week to recognize the Ohio woman who found the remains of New Hampshire’s Gehring children in December.
Stephanie Dietrich of Akron, Ohio, and her dog, found the remains of Sarah and Philip Gehring on Dec. 1 first in Hudson, Ohio. The children disappeared in July 2003.
Their father, who killed himself in prison, admitted killing them and burying them along Interstate 80, somewhere in the Midwest. He could not pinpoint the gravesite, but told police of landmarks. Dietrich followed the clues and found the shallow graves.
The FBI plans to recognize her on Wednesday at FBI headquarters in Boston.
