LEWISTON – Bates College allowed its fewest goals in three years with a 13-1 triumph over New England College in men’s lacrosse.

Brenton Pitt, John Kinnane and Justin Simon scored two goals apiece for the Bobcats (3-0). Bates used four goalies in the victory.

Billy Brooks of Lewiston made 14 saves.

Bates 17, Babson 8

LEWISTON – Molly Wagner scored five goals to pace the Bates women’s lacrosse team to a season-opening 17-8 victory over Babson.

Shannon Tully added three goals, while Sonija Parson and Katherine Farmer scored two each. Katie Nickerson was credited with nine saves.

Gettysburg 7, St. Joe’s 3

PORT RICHIE, Fla. – Kenny Stone tossed a nine-hitter and struck out six batters in seven innings as Gettysburg posted a 7-3 win over St. Joseph’s in college baseball action Tuesday.

The Monks (3-2) got on the board in the sixth when Dustin Spiller singled to center and moved to third on an Andrew Dvilinsky single. He scored on a throwing error.

Maine splits twinbill

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Maine defeated Columbia and dropped a decision to Tennessee-Martin.

Amy Kuhl hit a two-run double in the first inning to lead Maine to a 3-0 win over the Tigers. Sarah Bennis gave up four hits and fanned a season-high 10 batters for her seventh shutout of the season.

In the nightcap, the Black bears dropped a 4-0 decision to Tennessee-Martin.

St. Joseph’s splits

FORT MYERS, Fla. – St. Joseph’s (2-2) lost its opening game to Fitchburg State, 8-3, but stormed back in Game 2 for a 9-0 triumph of Norwich.

Kim Bechard hit a double, while Kristi Albert led all players with three runs. Burrola struck out nine batters.
