Taize service

LEWISTON – Trinity Episcopal Church will hold a Taize service at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 19, offering a peaceful hour amidst the bustle of life. All are welcome.

Trinity offers hospitality to several community programs, including the Trinity Jubilee Center, several AA and NA groups as well as a small worship community. The contemplative Taize service offers a stillness to balance and enrich the active life. The service is patterned after those held at the Taize community in France.

To discuss travels

AUBURN – Members of the Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the High Street Congregational Church.

Barbara V. Randall will present “Flowers and Children Around the World.” Randall is noted for her slide show talks of her worldwide travels.

Serving on the program with Chairwoman Jill Jones are Dorothy Prince, Joyce Campbell and Patricia Lepage.

Rebekah degree

AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet for a light supper at 6 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St. Members are to bring sandwiches, salads or desserts.

The degree team of the Androscoggin Valley Past Noble Grands Association is invited. During the meeting that begins at 7 p.m. they will work the Rebekah degree on a class of candidates. Also, the 183rd birthday of Schuyler Colfax, founder of the Rebekah Degree, will be observed.

This is Arthritis Month, and a collection will be taken to support the state Arthritis Chapter. Anyone wishing more information about the Rebekahs may call Esther Tucker at 998-5359.

Variety show

TURNER – The Leavitt Area High School Performing Arts Department is sponsoring an all-school variety show filled with acts performed by students and staff at 7 p.m. Friday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day, in the school auditorium.

Admission will be $5 at the door, with open seating. Proceeds from the show will benefit the arts department activities. The drama students will run the technical aspects of the show and Penny Appleby is the director. All are welcome. For more information, call Appleby at 225-4371.

AARP speaker

LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Chapter 4077, AARP, will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the Multi-Purpose Center, Birch Street. The board of directors will meet at 12:15 p.m.

The speaker will be Claudette Reny. She has been working in the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Radiology Dept. for 23 years, following her graduation from St. Dominic High School. She is among a mission group who travel to Haiti to bring health care to the people there, especially the children. She has been there 10 times.

Anyone age 50 or over is invited to attend and join the organization. Attendance and pot of gold drawings will be held and refreshments served.

VFW meeting

LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the post home, Route 196. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome. Agenda items will include future plans and the essay contest banquet. For more information, call 353-2152.

Distribution day

AUBURN – Auburn AC SERVE, a part of SERVE New England’s food and volunteer program, will hold Distribution Day from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance.

Registrations for April also will be taken. New participants in the SERVE, formerly SHARE, program are welcome.

Screening

WINTHROP – Winthrop Grade School kindergarten registration and screening will take place Monday through Thursday, April 10, 11, 12 and 13. Call the school at 377-2442, ext. 249, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

A child must be age 5 on or before Oct. 15 to register. Parent should bring the child, his/her original birth certificate, immunization record and a recent picture.
