AUBURN – A local woman escaped without serious injury early Wednesday after her car struck a train and was dragged at least 50 feet.

Police said 29-year-old Ilsa Lobozzo, of 89 Manley Road, had been drinking before her car was struck on the Court Street train crossing near Meineke Car Care Center.

Lobozzo was charged with driving while intoxicated later Wednesday morning after she was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to be evaluated, police said..

Witnesses said the railroad signals were working and the barrier was down when Lobozzo drove her car into the train as it crossed in front of her.

Police said Lobozzo braked, stopped abruptly and then her car was pushed about 50 feet. Damage to her black 1997 Honda two-door was estimated at $17,000. It was not immediately known how much damage was caused to the train, although it was believed to be minimal.

Lobozzo was given a blood test at CMMC, where she was treated and released.
