LEWISTON – Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. and members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council added to the “spirit” of a Lewiston High School rally by presenting the indoor track team with the March Mayor’s Citation of Excellence.

Cheers filled the gym, as each track team member was called forward by Guay and certificates presented by Lewiston Youth Advisory Council members Sarah Peters, Rachel Spilecki, Kelin Sevit, Tim Stretton, Ally Beaucage, Amanda Martin, Hossain Naji, Jenni Golletti and Ray Goulet.

Guay said, “The team is receiving this award in recognition of their exemplary record-setting performance.”

He added, “Congratulations on your first-year KVAC championship win, as well as placing second in the state of Maine; setting 12 school records; and setting five league records this year. You have represented your school in a manner to be proud of, and, certainly, your teamwork and respect of each other’s abilities have brought you to this point.”

Track team members individually recognized were Thomas Baril, Matt Bouchard, Thomas Carr, Matt Cyr, Joe Glass, Joshua Lajoie, Abdirizak H. Mohamed, Bashir Mohamed, Brian Patnode, Daniel Pelletier, Thomas Robitaille, Jason Robustelli, Kurt Thibeault.

Also, Husayn Canagie, George Foster, Mohamed Ibrahim, Maxwell Stevenson, Ethan Gagnon, Mohamed Hussein, Jeffrey Lucier, Hossain Naji, Nate Rivet, Craig Thibeault, Joseph Travaglini, Matthew Driscoll, Joshua Horton, Anwar Mohamed, Kevin Prentice and Alex Wong.

One-page nominations of a Lewiston middle school or high school student for the April 2006 “Mayor’s Citation of Excellence” are due by April 7. Nominations may be mailed to Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. or the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council at Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine St., Lewiston, ME 04240 or be e-mailed to dottie@ci.lewiston.me.us.

Nominations must be for an action or accomplishment that is “extraordinary” or “above and beyond” that has occurred within the last two months.
