3 earn honors in racewalking

LANDOVER, Md. – Boothbay’s Lauren Forgues, Taylor Burns of Scarborough, and Aaron Carroll each earned All-American honors at the recent Nike Track and Field Championships. Six Maine athletes made the trip to compete in the Nike event last Saturday, then participated in another race in New York City on Sunday.

Forgues captured her sixth All-American honor in Landover with a personal-best time of 7:30.97 in the one-mile racewalk. Forgues stayed with the leaders for much of the race and finished in fourth place.

In the boys’ race at Landover, Burns finished sixth with a time of 7:54.04 to earn his second high school All-American Award.

Carroll put in an impressive performance on Sunday in NYC, smashing his previous day’s time by walking a 7:44.28 to beat out one of the South Texas walkers for fourth place. Carroll also earned his second All-American honor.

Forgues decided not to compete in Sunday’s event to prevent further aggravation of an injury.

She hopes to compete next month in Long Island, N.Y., in hopes of making the U.S. Junior World Cup team that will be competing in Spain in mid May.
