SKOWHEGAN – Russell P. Brown, 76, of Oakland, died March 15, in Skowhegan.
He operated the family farm until 1972. He went into construction and built homes and stone fireplaces. He worked on the coast, building log homes for Lindel Co., including the conference center in New Harbor.
He was a member of the Cascade Grange No. 92 for 60 years, and was a member of Kennebec Pomona. He held offices in Maine State Grange and was the state youth director for eight years.
His greatest pleasure was working with youths, and he and his wife, Dorothy were named Outstanding National Youth Directors. He served on the Oakland Town Council, and was a member of the Oakland United Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Brown, whom he married March 19, 1950; two sons, Roger and Peter Brown; two daughters, Susan Church, and Ellen Jurdak; seven grandchildren; his sister, Julia H. Brown; and a special friend, Clyde G. Berry.
