Auburn – Maurice McDonald, 77, of Main Street in Jay, died Thursday, March 16, at the Hospice House after a long illness.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1929, in Riley, the son of Randall and Jessie Winslow McDonald and was a graduate of Jay High School. After graduation he worked at International Paper Co., Otis Mill in Jay. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He worked in the local shoe shops and also as a custodian for Edward Little High School in Auburn.
On March 13, 1966, he married the former Beverly Richards. She passed away on March 25, 2005. He loved to socialize and be with people. He was a member of the local bowling league and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots’ fan.
He is survived by three daughters, Debra Grover of Lewiston, Brenda Locke and her husband, Dave, of Livermore, and Tanya Grover of Livermore Falls; a brother, Earl McDonald and his wife, Marguerite, of Jay; a sister, Verna Young of Wilton; four grandchildren, Kristy Grover, Jason Grover, Steve Parker Jr. and Brett Parker; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Grover and Sophia Grover.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie McDonald; four brothers, Bud, Frank, Arthur and Gene McDonald; two sisters, Dot Bansmer and Zelma Martori.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thankyou to the caregivers at Hospice House for their dedicated care to Maurice during his stay.
