Animal abuse is a very important issue. People who abuse animals think they can get away with it and sometimes they do. It makes me sick that this happens to cute and helpless animals.

I feel that one control officer in Lewiston and Auburn is not enough, and I think there should be more than one animal control officer in each community. Then, if there is a report of animal abuse, they could go there and find out if it is a real case. On cable television there is a program about animal control officers. They did a segment on Miami. There they have more officers and are effective.

The kids and young adults who abuse animals will most likely abuse people in the future. I do not think anyone would like people to abuse animals or people. We should stop kids that abuse animals before it gets worse.

In Auburn, there is a shelter. The Auburn shelter is a good place, but if we have more than one animal control officer they would be able to put the abused animals in a shelter where they can eventually have a good home. If people see any type of animal abuse they should call the police.
