Penalties for sex offenders are becoming stricter every year. In some states, they have restricted offenders from being anywhere near bus stops, playgrounds, schools or daycare centers. In some places by restricting offenders from these areas, they have rid them from the whole city. I think this is a great way to protect people. Unfortunately, there are also unregistered and free sex offenders that may not be in the sex offender registry. There are new laws being thought of to protect innocent victims and possible victims every day.
I believe that some sex offenders are a lot more dangerous than others. Now, doctors can pick out the people who are likely to strike again. They can’t completely cure them, but they can treat them, which helps. Since they have a disease that attracts them to younger children, they can’t be fully cured. Sometimes abusers are mentally ill. So, maybe instead of going to jail, they should be put into a mental hospital.
In my opinion, there is a reasonable solution to sex offenders being a problem in society so often. The first time they sexually abuse someone, they should go to jail, and then be checked by doctors to see if they are likely to strike again. If they are, they should be treated. If they’re not, they should be closely watched. Sexually abusing someone more than once should earn them a longer jail sentence, and a place in a mental hospital.
