How often do you hear about racism in the state of Maine? You might not hear it often but it still happens every day. I don’t think that it should be forgotten.

People in Maine need to be aware that people are still made fun of because of their race or religion. New immigrants into Lewiston and Auburn have come from Somalia.

Schools in the Lewiston-Auburn area have programs like the Unity project that informs kids that it doesn’t matter what color you are; you are all just the same. The Unity project is a program that informs teens on just how badly words can hurt people. Also, when students get ready to leave the Unity program, they all have to say something that they are going to do to prevent racism in their school. This helps a little bit.

I think that there should be more multicultural events in our area to help people learn that people are just people and put an end to racism.
