PARIS – “Native Maine Orchids” will be the topic of the program at the McLaughlin Garden at 7 p.m. Monday, March 20.

Michael Hicks will give a general introduction to the orchid family and show slides that he has taken of orchids in Oxford County. Hicks lives in the Bethel area and has been a long-time hiker and woods watcher.

Five years ago he started paying close attention to orchids by drawing the various ones he came upon in the woods. This has since become an intense focus as he has researched and studied the 36 varieties in the area.

This is the third in the Monday series of programs associated with the One Book One Community event reading and discussing Hannah Holmes book, “Suburban Safari; a Year in the Backyard.”

The public is welcome to the free program.

On Monday, March 27, at 7 p.m. the topic will be “Vernal Pools and the Big Night” at the Harrison Village Library. The presenter will be Bridie McGready from the Lakes Environmental Association.
