NORRIDGEWOCK (AP) – Authorities have identified a 15-year-old boy from Pittsfield who was allegedly shot by another teenager.

Joshua Sawyer was shot by a 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, in a field off of Martin Stream Road at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland. Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service are investigating.

The fatality was initially reported as a hunting accident. State police are now calling it a shooting death.

“There are a lot of questions investigators have, and some of them we hope to have answered today,” McCausland said.

An autopsy was being performed Monday morning on the victim, McCausland said.
