FARMINGTON – Firefighters contained damage from a fire Sunday night to two apartments in a complex at 165 Middle St. No one was injured.
The fire is believed to have started around a light switch in the bathroom in apartment No. 1 on the first floor and burned inside the wall into apartment No. 3, which is upstairs, Farmington Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Tim Hardy said Monday.
He estimated damage roughly at $20,000.
About 19 Farmington firefighters responded to the fire reported just before 6:30 p.m.
Firefighters had to tear out a bathroom wall and ceiling on the first floor, as well as under the kitchen sink and some of the floor in apartment No. 3 to get at the fire, Hardy said.
Firefighters put salvage covers on first floor tenant Norman Corbin’s belongings to minimize the damage, Hardy said.
No one was home in apartment No. 3 and the occupants of the other three units in the complex were able to return to their apartments, he said.
The complex is owned by Rose Grimanis of Farmington.
