LEWISTON – Laurier J. “Larry” Simoneau, 85, of Jay, died Tuesday, March 21, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born, Oct. 21, 1920, in Jay, a son of Donat and Lea (Therrien) Simoneau. He graduated from Livermore Falls High School and later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Italy from 1942 to 1945 with the 489th Bomb Squadron.
On Jan. 27, 1946, he married, Frances Pineau.
He retired from International Paper in 1981, as a supervisor on the No. 3 super calendar machine, after 42 years of employment.
He was a life-member of the Knights of Columbus, Wilson Lake Country Club, Maine State Golf Association, VFW Post 3335 in Jay and served on the first recreation committee for the town of Jay.
He was an avid golfer who enjoyed his daily competition with the Gangbuster League at Wilson Lake, gardening, which was also a passion, fishing, bingo, and especially the 23 winters he was able to spend with his wife, Frances in retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of 60 years; their four children, Brenda Romano and her husband, Barry, Debra Lambert and her husband, Bob, Rick Simoneau and his wife, Lisa and Jaye Simoneau and his wife, Tina; his beloved grandchildren, Lauri Romano Phelan, Brady Romano, Corey and Jamy Blanchard, Chuckie Miller, Jesse, Andrew and Leah Simoneau, Kristen and Kasey Simoneau; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Bert Simoneau and his wife, Doris and Paul Simoneau and his wife, Jeannine; sisters, Pauline Brougham and her husband, Francis, Reinette Richards and her husband, Bob and Marlene Boivin and her husband, Philip.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Gerard Simoneau; a sister, Blanche Rogers.
