The catalogue includes details of 16 workshops and 11 crafts demonstrations, floorcloths, herbs, chair caning, baskets, woodworking, handmade paper, knitting, quilting, wood turning, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving. News of special events is also included.
Seed swap
UNITY – The seventh annual Seed Swap and Scion Exchange will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association’s Common Ground Education Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The Maine Tree Crop Alliance, the Maine Seed Saving Network, Fedco and the association will host the event, which will include educational workshops.
People can bring seeds, scionwood or cuttings they have to share. Labels, tape and markers will be available, and T-shirts, books, grafting supplies and rootstock will be for sale. Admission free, although donations are welcome.
Bird course
FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon will offer an course on identifying bird species by their vocalizations from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11, 18, 25 and May 2.
Taught by Colby College biology professor Herb Wilson, the course will give participants knowledge of Maine’s most common songbirds and techniques for recognizing and remembering their vocalizations.
Suitable for beginning as well as intermediate birders, the course is timed with spring migration. A field trip to practice new skills will head to a local birding spot from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20.
The course is $98 for Audubon members, $120 for nonmembers. Advance registration is necessary.
