STRONG – Harry Gordon, William Fay and James Burrill are vying for two selectmen’s seats during a special election Tuesday.

The polls will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. on March 28 at the Forster Memorial Building.

The special election is being held to fill one year remaining on Jeff O’Donnell and Jeff Murphy’s terms. They resigned in late January after a road dispute.

Two other selectmen, Clyde Barker and Roger Corson, decided to withdraw their nomination papers, but only Corson went through with it after Barker changed his mind so the town wouldn’t be left without a veteran selectman.

Barker was re-elected during the annual town meeting March 4 and write-in candidate former Selectman Rupert Pratt was elected to serve on the board.

Gordon has served on the town’s Fire Department and other committees and has owned and operated a logging and trucking business for more than 45 years. He employs eight full-time employees, according to a statement on the candidates sent out by Town Clerk Eunice Shurtleff.

Fay is semi-retired after working for Cable Vision for 20 years, 12 of those as general manager out of Bangor.

Burrill is currently employed at SeniorsPlus through the Able Program. He has degrees in management and secondary education and has helped with grant-writing.
