WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) – Zenon Konopka scored in the ninth round of the shootout and Jani Hurme made 25 saves to lead the Portland Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday night.

Garett Bembridge scored in regulation for Portland. Konopka put a shot through the legs of goaltender Dany Sabourin in the shootout to seal the win.

Pierre Parenteau and Aaron Gavey also scored in the shootout for Portland (43-16-5-3).

After Erik Christensen and Krys Kolanos scored on the first two attempts of the shootout for the Penguins (43-16-4-5), Hurme turned back the next seven shooters.

Bembridge gave the Pirates the lead in the second period, taking a pass from Igor Pohanka and scoring on a shot that trickled between the pads of Sabourin.

The Penguins tied the game on a power-play goal by Ryan Stone with 2:45 left in regulation.

Stone was in front of the net and tipped a slap shot by Welch past Hurme. Before the goal, the Penguins were 0-for-7 with the man advantage.

The Penguins lead the East Division with 95 points, while Portland is atop the Atlantic Division with 94 points.
