JAY – A wine tasting is being sponsored by the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 Auxiliary at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the VFW Post, 64 Jewell St.

Proceeds will benefit the Cancer Aid and Research Fund. Advance tickets are available at the VFW Post, 64 Jewell St. Deadline is April 15. Those wishing may call the post at 897-5112 to reserve tickets, but they must be paid for before April 15. There will be no tickets at the door.

Two white wines and four red wines that compliment the hors d’ouerves will be served. Bob Roy, presenter, Pine State Beverage Co., will share information on each of the wines. Rating sheets will be available to make notes and take home for future reference.

Out of the approximately $3 million that is raised each year for the Cancer Aid and Research Fund, almost $2,250,000 goes back to VFW Auxiliary members who have been diagnosed with cancer, in the form of cancer grants.

The amount of $100,000 is given to cancer research institutions; $100,000 is given to postdoctoral research fellows; and $450,000 is returned to state auxiliary departments. The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor receives Maine’s portion of the $450,000.
