Your proposal for alleviating the problem of escalating property taxes for senior citizens is interesting, and I hope it will be explored further.

I am over 65, fully retired and a homeowner in Auburn. Along with many others, I was shocked when I received the letter last fall that indicated that my taxes for 2006 could be double what I paid in 2005. I recently renovated and moved into a home that has been in my family since 1930, and it is my hope that I will be able to live here for the rest of my life. If taxes continue to increase, and that probably will be the case, it is quite possible that I would be forced to sell out and find another place to live – not an appealing prospect.

I would definitely like to see your idea developed further as a possible benefit for those of us hoping to be able to retain our homes while living on a fixed income.
