It never ceases to amaze me how groups calling themselves Christians can find the most effective ways to turn people against their causes and to give religion a bad name. The Kansas protesters need to know that Saturday’s service for Corey Dan is not about them.
It’s not about war, and it’s not about religion.
It is about people who loved Corey saying goodbye. That is all. We say, “There ought to be a law.” And there is. It’s the First Amendment. So we have to accept their right to be there.
Their presence will make a tough moment even tougher for mourners, who can take heart by remembering that what goes around comes around. The protesters are hurting their own cause while bringing attention to the need for some modification of this assemblage and free speech stuff America has relied on for generations.
Perhaps the only good thing to come of such gatherings is that attention. Perhaps the suffering they will impose can be prevented in the future because they insist on being obnoxious now.
