This is in response to the Leonard Pitts Jr. column of March 15 scoring Christians living under biblical authority.

It was disheartening to read his words during Lent, a time of greater devotion to the speech of God. The book, “The Soul of Colonial America,” underscores the premise of biblical authority, never doubted by Puritan fathers. The greatest hope of Puritan fathers was that their children would internalize the holy writ, and their devotion and obedience to it would survive for generations to come.

The Puritan fathers formed the soul of America.

From 1000 to 1500 A.D., the Christian church triumphed in Europe. But what has happened in the last 500 years? Has the noble vine (shining city on the hill) become the degenerate plant?

Are the Islamists more faithful to their holy writ than Christians are to theirs?

Are the Leonard Pitts Jr.’s of the world responsible for that?

He is the poster boy for the United Church of Christ. The UCC flagrantly violated the most sacred of commandments by its July 4 embrace of same-sex unions.

The UCC was once both the indigenous church of New England and the heart of religious revivalism in America.

The hope of the Christian church in the world today is a return of the discipline of biblical authority and repentance by any parts of the Christian church that teach denial of biblical authority to American youth.
