I feel the public should be able to believe what we read in our paper. Not so in the Sun Journal.
The article “Officials probe hunting fatality,” printed March 20 on the front page, ends with bum information.
A hunter does not need a migratory stamp to hunt crow. The season on rabbits does go to the end of March in most of the state, but ends in February in another part of the state. As far as crow season goes, be careful because there is a different season for wildlife management districts 1-6 and 7-30.
Another thing: you can presently hunt – along with crow and coyote – red squirrel and porcupine.
I think the staff of the Sun Journal should “eat crow,” and I suggest referencing the Maine Fish and Game hunting law book, page 8, the page that has the list of the hunting seasons.
