LEWISTON – Jean Paul F. Poulin, 87, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion passed away Saturday, March 25, after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1918, the son of Omer and Marie Louise (Poulin) Poulin. He was born in St. Fabien, Quebec, and moved to Lewiston at a young age and spent the rest of his life in the Lewiston area.

On May 11, 1946, he married the love of his life, Henriette Doyon, whom he shared his life with until she passed away on Sept. 27, 2001.

He entered the United States Army on June 6, 1942, achieving the rank of staff sergeant before being sent overseas on June 5, 1943. He was wounded on Oct. 17, 1943, in France and sent back into combat and was wounded for a second time in Germany on March 21, 1944. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was proud of his military achievements and devotion to his country.

He was a member of the DAV, NARFE, lifetime member of the Pastime Club and the Lewiston Senior Citizens. He was also a parishioner and communicant of Holy Cross Church in Lewiston.

He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service before his retirement in 1980.

His favorite pastimes were playing golf, going to hockey games and playing cribbage with his friends at the Pastime Club. He especially enjoyed going on trips with his wife, Henriette. They made several trips to Machias just for a piece of blueberry pie.

He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, and his enjoyment of teasing his grandchildren. He loved sharing life with his family and especially attending family functions. His smile and kindness touched the lives of so many people. He will be missed by his many friends and acquaintances.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert and his wife, Janie, of Lewiston, Ronald and his wife, Patricia, of Lisbon; his daughter, Joline Bechard and her husband, Robert, of Lewiston; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Conrad; and his sister, Florette Chretien.
