LEWISTON – Michael J. Durisko Jr., 94, passed away after a long illness at the St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion on March 26.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1912, a son of the late Michael J. Sr and Anna (Sovak) Durisko.

He attended New York schools and later went on to work as a materials engineer for Standard Oil of New Jersey and worked in Caracas, Venezuela, and Libya. He retired in 1967, after working there for more than 25 years. He had helped to build runways on the Aleutian Islands off of Alaska for the Grove Drakes Co., and helped to build the Canada, Alaska Highway.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the International Union of Operation Engineers, and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lisbon Falls. Some of his greatest hobbies were golfing and traveling, he was a world wide traveler. He was an excellent golfer who had a handicap of 4, he had golfed several holes in one at the Apple Valley Golf Course and in Venezuela.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Fortin of Brunswick; his grandchildren, Mary Jane and husband, James Favreau, Anita and husband, John York, Rosemary and husband, Joseph Murphy, Kerstin and husband, Nelson Palmer, Thomas D. Ericson, all of Brunswick, and Robert E. Ericson Jr. of Savannah, Ga., Khanni, Michael, and Pricilla all of Washington, Helen of Oregon; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Andrew D. Durisko of Lisbon Falls; a life-long friend and in-law, Roy H. Ericson Sr.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael Andrew Durisko; and a sister, Jane Mosher.
