LEWISTON – Police on Monday were trying to determine why nearly a dozen people had to be arrested Sunday at a heavy metal concert at the Colisee.

By Monday morning, 11 people had been arrested on charges ranging from disorderly conduct and assault to furnishing drugs. Most were from nearby towns or from other states, according to booking sheets.

Nobody was hurt during the three-band show headlined by Korn, but police said they contended with mobs of intoxicated people who refused to leave when told to, exposed their buttocks to the security team, and pelted the officers with coins and other objects outside the arena.

“There were more arrests than usual over there and we’ll be reviewing the situation to find out why,” said Lewiston Deputy Chief Michael Bussiere.

Police said they mostly arrested people who became belligerent after being kicked out of the show and those who committed crimes in plain view of the officers.

April Langley, 24, of South Paris, was charged with domestic assault about 9:15 p.m. after a police officer said he saw her beating on her boyfriend.

Lisa Beaudreau, 19, of Augusta, was charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly refusing to leave the building, pulling her pants down and exposing her buttocks, screaming disparaging remarks about the officers’ family members, and jumping onto the roof of her car and daring police to arrest her.

Jason K. Boston, 19, Poland, was charged with furnishing drugs after police said they spotted him exchanging a marijuana cigarette with another man.

Others were arrested for disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, refusing to submit and violating conditions of release stemming from earlier, unrelated charges. Two of those arrested were from Lewiston, one was from Auburn. One was from New Hampshire and one from Massachusetts, according to the booking sheets. The rest were from other Maine towns.

Police said many concert-goers arrived at the arena intoxicated and then bought beer once inside.

Police said they made the arrests to ensure the safety of the rest of the crowd. There were roughly four dozen security officers working the show, hired by the Colisee. The arena was filled to capacity, police said, meaning there were 11 arrests at a show with an audience of approximately 5,000.

Still, police said they will evaluate the events of Sunday night and determine if more officers will be needed at future concerts.

“We want to make sure we have the right number of officers working the concerts,” Bussiere said. “And we want to see if there’s anything else we can do.”
